Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 23, 2026
Quoted ("the app," "we," "us," or "our") is an iOS application developed by Soughtandfound. This Privacy Policy explains how Quoted handles your information. We have built Quoted to be private by design: your quotes are yours, and they stay with you.
The Short Version
- Quoted does not collect, sell, or share your personal data.
- Your quotes are stored on your device and, if you enable iCloud, in your own private iCloud account.
- We do not operate any servers that store your quotes.
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking.
- The optional one-time "Patron" purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.
Information Stored by the App
Your quotes and library content. The quotes you save — including their text, authors, sources, links, tags, and favorite status — are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device database (SwiftData). This content belongs to you.
iCloud sync (optional). If you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud enabled for Quoted, your library is synced through Apple's CloudKit service to your own private iCloud account. This allows your quotes to appear across your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud container, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We, the developers, cannot access, read, or retrieve the contents of your iCloud data. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device settings.
Badges and usage milestones. Quoted includes an achievement system. The progress used to award badges (such as how many quotes you have saved or your saving streak) is stored locally on your device. This information never leaves your device except as part of your own iCloud backup, if enabled.
App preferences. Settings such as your chosen theme and widget preferences are stored locally on your device.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or contact information.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or serve advertisements.
- We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting services that profile you.
- We do not maintain user accounts or servers that hold your content.
Camera and Photo Access
Quoted offers an optional feature to capture a quote by scanning text from a photo. If you choose to use this feature:
Camera. When you scan using your camera, the image is processed entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework to recognize text. The photo is not uploaded anywhere and is not retained by the app after the text is extracted.
Photo Library. If you select an existing photo, it is likewise processed on-device only. Quoted accesses only the specific image you choose.
Text recognition happens entirely on your device. No images or recognized text are sent to us or any third party.
Sharing Features
Quoted lets you share a quote with others — for example, as text, as a link, or as an image — using the standard iOS share sheet. When you share, you choose the recipient and the method (Messages, Mail, social apps, etc.). That sharing is handled by iOS and the destination app you select, subject to their respective privacy practices. Quoted does not transmit shared content to us.
The "Request a Quote" feature lets you ask another person for a quote by sending them a link through the share sheet. The content and recipient of that message are entirely under your control.
In-App Purchases
Quoted is free to use. We offer a single optional, one-time in-app purchase: the "Patron" unlock. This is a lifetime purchase (not a subscription) that supports the app's development and unlocks cosmetic features, such as a Patron badge and additional visual themes, as well as future features to be developed later. The Patron unlock does not change how your data is collected, stored, or handled.
Payment processing. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using your Apple Account. We do not collect, receive, or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment information. Payment is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Restoring purchases. To recognize your Patron status across your devices, Quoted uses Apple's StoreKit framework to confirm your purchase with the App Store. This verification is performed through Apple and tied to your Apple Account; it does not require us to identify you personally.
No recurring charges. Because the Patron unlock is a one-time purchase, there is no subscription, no auto-renewal, and nothing to cancel.
Children's Privacy
Quoted is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Quoted does not collect personal data from any user, this is true for users of all ages.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your quotes live on your device (and in your own iCloud account if enabled), you are in full control of them:
- Delete individual quotes at any time within the app.
- Delete all data by removing the app from your device. If you used iCloud, you can also delete Quoted's data from your iCloud storage in your device's iCloud settings.
- Export a backup. Quoted lets you export your library as a JSON file so you can keep your own copy.
We do not retain copies of your content, because we never receive it.
Security
Your data is protected by the security of your device and, where applicable, by Apple's iCloud infrastructure, including encryption in transit and at rest as described in Apple's documentation. We encourage you to protect your device with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
Third-Party Services
Quoted relies on the following Apple-provided services, each governed by Apple's own privacy policy:
- iCloud / CloudKit — for optional sync of your library to your private iCloud account.
- StoreKit / App Store — for processing the optional Patron in-app purchase.
- Vision framework — for on-device text recognition when scanning photos (no data leaves the device).
When you view an author's biography, Quoted may retrieve publicly available summary information from Wikipedia. These requests are made directly from your device to Wikipedia and are subject to the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store the results beyond caching them locally on your device for your convenience.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be noted within the app. Your continued use of Quoted after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
